Over the past months, fear, grief and vulnerability have overwhelmed the country, and scores of children across the country are left without any guidance on processing this crisis. With public schools unlikely to re-open for a second year running, the social and peer support available to students have been cut off, especially in areas where smartphone-enabled communication is not the norm.
Despite their best efforts, teachers who themselves are overwhelmed, are not able to support students adequately, especially with the socio-emotional support they need at this time. We fear that students' growing detachment and break from learning is likely to deepen vulnerabilities, leading to increased drop-outs and significant loss in human capital.
To address students’ learning needs at a time such as this, we are implementing a summer school programme, Masti Ki Paathshaala from June 2021 onwards.
